The Winter of 2014: An Epic Year for Potholes - and Road Repair

February 04, 2014

Snow-Melt-Repeat: In many regions across the U.S., this has been the typical weather pattern over the past few months making 2014 an especially bad year for potholes.

This means it will be an especially busy winter for road repairs as well. Unfortunately, roadwork is particularly hazardous during the winter months due to the cold, ice, and low visibility. It is estimated that more than 40,000 people are injured each year as a result of motor vehicle crashes in work zones, particularly during the colder months. Fortunately, with some preventative measures, these accidents can be prevented.

Traffic cones are the simplest, yet most effective way to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists. The bright, florescent orange and green colors of the cones make them visible from a distance, enabling drivers to slow down before they reach an area that may be potentially dangerous to either the worker or motorist.

Cones made of PVC plastic keep their shape and color for years, even in extreme heat, cold, sun, and rain. Look for cones that are 100% stackable and lightweight for easy transport, storage, and set up.  And while the high-visibility colors keep motor vehicle hazards at bay, they will not cause damage to a vehicle itself should the cone and vehicle come in contact.
