Freezing Temps Call for Protective Footwear

December 31, 2012

As cold weather peaks in the months of January and February, it is crucial to have and wear good quality boots for inclement weather.  Boots have a two-fold purpose: protecting the feet from cold, wet weather and also providing adequate traction.
If feet are left unprotected, damp weather and freezing temperatures can cause injuries such as frostbite, frostnip and chilblains.  People with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis are at an even greater risk for such injuries.  Boots made of sturdy, waterproof material prevent such injuries by keeping slush, rain, and snow from coming in contact with the body and keeping feet warm.
Additionally, boots with good traction are critical. Countless injuries during the winter months in the form of fractures, sprains, and broken bones occur because of shoes with inadequate traction. A high-quality boot with good traction makes footing more stable, preventing slips and falls in snowy/slushy/icy conditions.
