Fire Hydrant Markers are Crucial to First-Responders in Saving Lives

January 04, 2016

Finding the closest water source in the event of a fire emergency can often mean the difference between life and death. Many times, however, emergency crews lose valuable time attempting to locate a hydrant as their size makes them easily hidden by things such as cars, trash piles, shrubbery, and in the winter months, snow piled up from snow plows. Fortunately, fire hydrant markers can quickly, easily, and cost-effectively aid first responders in locating the nearest hydrant when an emergency arises. But not all hydrant markers are created equal - here are some things to consider when purchasing a hydrant marker:

  • Look for a high-quality unit with a secure top mount for easy installation;
  • Hi-vis, fiberglass rod that is at least 7 feet;
  • UV protection to prevent the unit from fading;
  • Heavy duty stainless steel springs that make the unit flexible in wind/rain/snow without breaking.
