During summer's hot months, the incidence of heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke rise sharlply. But harmful effects of the heat can be avoiced with these 5 simply strategies:
- Choose workwear designed to alleviate heat load on the body such as those that offer trans-evaporative cooling as well as UV protection.
- Wear a cooling "bandana" to reduce heat & discomfort to the head and neck area where heat loading commonly occurs. A brimmed hat can also reduce the effects of the sun's rays while adding a nape protector maximizes protection to the head & neck area.
- Keep cool water easily accessible during the job. Electrolyte replacement beverages also work well but avoid soda and caffeinated energy drinks.
